A place where students of the Otago University mainly live. We come at a time when graduation takes place. It’s a time when bars are in good business. There are a few students doing a gig on the platform jutting out from the first floor, singing with the guitar. Proud parents and good friends are having pictures with the graduands. This reminds me of my graduation and I smile from within.
We take a train ride from Dunedin – the Taieri Gore Railway. Another new experience – the scenery is again spectacular. Looking out I can see the ravine with the meandering river and hillsides rising from the gorge. And this beautiful outlook seems so close, just right down there. I believe I won’t be able to get such a close up if I travel by vehicles.
Another place we visit before we leave Dunedin is Arrow Town. It interests me being a Chinese and especially when I’ve written a novel about Chinese Immigrants. There is some information on the early Chinese settlers in the museum and it adds to my knowledge how they were treated, how they lived, how they struggled…
I leave Dunedin with thoughts.
